First appearing in 1940’s Batman #1, the Joker has unarguably become one of the most iconic comic book characters in popular culture – even more so following the Oscar-winning portrayals by Heath Ledger in 2008’s The Dark Knight and Joaquin Phoenix in 2019’s Joker.
The Joker has undergone several iterations and portrayals as Batman’s main foil since his initial creation – which, in an act where life mirrors art, has differing and unresolved accounts. Bill Finger, Bob Kane, and Jerry Robinson are credited as the Joker‘s creators but they each have their own versions of how the character was created. Unfortunately, all three men have since passed away, ironically leaving the Joker’s origins as unverified in real life as it has been in the comics.
Now, DC Comics is marking the Joker’s eight decades of chaos and crime with a 100-page super spectacular one-shot, similar to the recent Catwoman 80th Anniversary special! The one shot will feature a whole host of covers, stories and pin ups. We’ll also celebrate along with a few stories all about our favorite Clown Prince of Crime.
Meanwhile, check out the amazing variant covers from the special depicting the Joker throughout his eight decades:
