Godzilla, Mechagodzilla And Other Titans Formally Apologizing For Destruction Caused

As more toys from the upcoming Godzilla vs Kong film get released, it’s funny to remember this cute little set released in Japan back in 2016 to promote the Shin Godzilla movie.

Sold in gachapon vending machines for ¥300 (~US$3, although good luck trying to find any at that price now!), Godzilla, Mechagodzilla, King Ghidorah and Hedorah (the Smog Monster) figurines bow in contrition from behind a typical press conference podium with signs explaining what they were apologizing for. These are typical scenes in Japan whenever a senior government official, celebrity, corporate leader has done something wrong, and must accept responsibility.

Godzilla bows and apologizes destructive vandalism (破壊行為)
Mechagodzilla repents for making imitations and copyright infringement (模倣行為)
King Gidorah bows all three heads and apologizes for aggressive invasion (侵略行為).
Hedorah, the Smog Monster, who hilariously apologizes for nothing. The sign states,”I apologize for nothing.”

While these are certainly cute, it’s unlikely that either Godzilla or Kong will apologize for the destruction from their epic fight in Godzilla v Kong out this March 31.
