During the Super Bowl this past weekend, Disney released an extended trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales – the fifth iteration of the franchise that resurrected Johnny Depp’s career only for it to tank again; Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides was quite meh in comparison and Depp’s “acting” reached a particularly low – but hilarious – point in this video:
The film will feature a bevy of stars, including Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Orlando Bloom, and Kevin McNally reprising their roles as Jack Sparrow, Hector Barbossa, Will Turner, and Joshamee Gibbs, respectively. Dead Men Tell No Tales will also introduce Capitán Salazar, who will be played by the awesome Javier Bardem, and Carina Smyth (played by Kaya Scodelario).
For the fifth outing, Captain Jack Sparrow is pursued by an old rival, Capitán Salazar, who along with his crew of ghost pirates has escaped from the Devil’s Triangle, and is determined to kill every pirate at sea. Jack seeks the Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that grants its possessor total control over the seas, in order to defeat Salazar.
